SA's Interfile Appoints Kennedy Chinganya as New CEO & EVP

Kennedy Chinganya, new CEO and executive vice president (EVP) of Interfile, says the provider of citizen-focused solutions for government, municipalities, and private sector organisations is poised for expansion.

Kennedy Chinganya, new CEO and executive vice president (EVP) of Interfile, says the provider of citizen-focused solutions for government, municipalities, and private sector organisations is poised for expansion.

Chinganya took over from interim EVP David Harwood on 29 April. Harwood has worked with Interfile since January 2025 to position the business for growth and recruit a permanent CEO. He will remain with the organisation until the end of July to support a smooth transition.

Interfile offers a suite of solutions for government, municipalities, and private sector organisations. Its solutions touch the lives of every South African, enabling them to make tax payments, obtain ID cards or passports, file for unemployment insurance fund benefits, and engage with or pay for local municipal services.

Chinganya says he aims to partner with government departments to digitise their environments. “Government faces many challenges, and that’s what I want to focus our efforts on. It’s about creating solutions that work for everyone. Our mission is to improve the lives of individual citizens by leveraging technology to make their interactions with government departments simpler and more efficient.

“When you consider the work Interfile has done in the past, and apply that model to the SADC region, it is clear that revenue collection is a priority for every country. I see tremendous potential for us to expand into this market,” he adds.

Says Sue Thexton, Group Leader at Harris, the firm that acquired Interfile from its founders in 2023 : “We have full confidence in Kennedy’s leadership, expertise and track record in the technology and public service sectors. This appointment reflects Harris’s dedication to excellence as Interfile begins an exciting new phase of growth and service delivery.”

Chinganya is a Chartered Accountant by profession with leadership experience spanning more than twenty years.

Before joining Interfile, he served as Chief Operating Officer for Microsoft Africa, Managing Director of Altron Nexus, Finance Director for Altron Rest of Africa, and Managing Director of MTN Business Kenya, among other roles.
